#7 Lie: Love will last a lifetime
The Truth: Love can last a lifetime....as long as it it's coupled with commitment
Love is a feeling, relationships are work and marriage is a commitment. Confuse these 3 and we end up teaching our kids that marriage is "magical" and love is the wand that makes it happen. IT ISN'T.
#8 Lie: Leaders are born, not bred.
The Truth: Some people have natural leadership gifts...but almost anyone can learn how to lead.
8 lessons in leadership
1. The significance of Self-Confidence (be the kind of person you would want to follow)
2. The significance of One (one person can make the difference)
3. The significance of Joining, not Judging
4. The significance of a Cause (believe in a cause and get others to believe it too)
5. The significance of Simplicity (smart people make the complex simple)
6. The significance of Action (make plans AND act on them)
7. The significance of Pulling, not Pushing (those who rely on leadership stand out in front to pull, those who rely on power stand in the back to push)
8. The significance of Sacrifice (self explanatory)
#9 Lie: Your past determines your future
The Truth: Your past may affect the present, but your vision - and your choices - will determine your future
Teach our kids these 3 C's
1. Choice. It breaks the cycle that suggests #9 lie
Choice = options
Choice = change
Choice = opportunity
2. Chance. For Christians, its God-incidence (not coincidence). God is working in our lives in ways we cannot predict ;-)
3. Creator. Prayer changes things because God changes things. Parent change a child's destiny the most when they spend time on their knees.
