Having Fun with Words

Principal of the hosting school opening the event

A great morning for me to be involved in the LSP Carnival :)

LSP is Learning Support Programme. It aims to help P1 and P2 pupils who are weak in English to level up. Mrs R from my kids' school is the teacher in charge. A wonderful teacher who never fails to encourage and praise the boys in this programme. These same boys are the ones we read to twice a week as part of our volunteer duty.

This morning, 5 schools gathered for the LSP Carnival. Each school hosted a game station and there was a spelling bee contest as well. i helped to man our game station, which is called the One Minute Dash, where the task is to read as many words as possible within the 1-minute time frame. The pupils were rewarded with small tokens like pencils, rulers, key chains, files etc.

Our boys waiting eagerly for the carnival to begin.

Mummy volunteers getting ready at our game station

The most eye-catching station.
(i think it's from the hosting school)

Kids queueing in an orderly manner to have a go at the games.

Our boys at the Spelling Bee Contest.

Mrs R told us that the school has won the contest for the past 2 years and she was nervous about the boys' performance today.

No worries lah, the boys did us proud by winning the contest!

It is most satisfying to help out at such events, especially when a word of praise goes a long way to boost the confidence of these children. Well done !
