Why You Can I Cannot?

Ethan walked up to me with a cheeky grin when I hung up the phone and said politely "I have a question." You feel at once your authority will be challenged.

Er, yes?

Why you can talk on the phone for 1 hour and you give us only 5 minutes to talk with our friends?

Tsk, tsk, how do you make your kids understand that grown ups spend their time wisely? Every second of my one hour (or more, ahem) conversation contributes to the understanding of human nature (of course along the way, we also discussed world peace...). Such issues were tackled responsibly and with sensitivity. Don't believe me ask Mrs K lah! You think we are like you meh, talk about non-issues like what are you doing now? what game do you like? what is the colour of your front door?

I've forgotten (conveniently of course) how I actually answered Ethan. But I did launch very quickly into several rounds of UNO with the boys in an attempt to deflect question and also to "pay back" for my preference for grown-up conversation ;-)
