Taiwan Day 1 (12 Dec) 台中 - 逢甲夜市

Fai eating smelly tofu :)

We reached Tai Zhong (台中) and checked into 台中富王 Hotel, with just enough time to put down our luggage and wash up before heading to Fengjia Night Market (逢甲夜市).

Two queen-sized beds in the room, just nice for our family. But Ethan turns 12 next year, which means an additional room needed :( money no enough, lol

The tour guide told us that Tai Zhong, being in the middle and protected by mountains, is spared much from extreme temperatures, so many chose to retire there. Indeed, it was a nice cooling night to stroll the night market.

As expected it was crowded at the night market, being Sunday night. Where we alighted, most of us queued for the well-known 大肠包小肠 (literal meaning: big intestines wrap small intestines), a snack of sausage and rice, with the rice shaped like a sausage as well. i queued while papa went for the other stalls. Imagine the time i spent at the quene, papa bought 3 other different snacks :)

Ewan pronounced the smell of smelly tofu NASTY, lol

臭豆腐 or smelly tofu is quite good at this stall. We only ate it one more time at another night market, wasn't as good there though. The boys had a tiny bite :) Just need to get past the smell lah, lol. We like the BBQ mushrooms and the guava here is nice and cheap. As for the famed 大肠包小肠, it's too filling to be called a snack 小吃. Truth be told, i think we were too full from the other "small" snacks to appreciate it :)

The end of the street coincides with the front of 逢甲大学 (Feng Chia University). In fact, we were told that the night market grew in tandem with the student population there. The students wanted cheap food, the snack stalls sprouted; the students needed sneakers, shoe shops opened; the students' eyesight worsened and needed glasses, optical shops prospered, lol
