A not-so-open book

About 3 years ago, i got into FB. Shortly after that, the Significant Other stumbled on a war game while at my account. Long after he got his own FB account and started the same war game, got tired of it and stopped playing, it was i who caught the bug and continued with the game for about a year.

At the height of the game, i added more than 3000 FB frens for game advantage. i've since deleted most of them, leaving those i got to know beyond the game. However, there is one i didn't delete even though i have no personal contact with him. He is one of our national shooters. In my adding spree, i didn't even know i added him. It was only when i saw his photos at the 2008 Olympics that i realised i have a "famous" FB fren.

i enjoyed reading his posts and looking at his photos. He retired from shooting and went on to try marathon, triathlon and Ironman even. His wife is also an athlete and trains with him, and completed Ironman with him!! Both are teachers. Talking about impressive. Anyway, he was recalled to the national shooting team again and is now at the CWG in Delhi. Looking at his photos at the current games is more firsthand than the news.(Ya, got pictures of the toilet and bed, lol)

If you are still with me till now, here is my point, lol

i'm not this guy's personal fren but yet i know quite a lot about him by just visiting his FB profile. He must have been comfortable with this level of revelation of his life to non-RL friends, including where he and his wife works, where he trains, etc.

i'm no famous person lah, but i would think twice if my life is so open (at least in the cyberspace). Yes i know i blog, what privacy you may ask, when any Tom, Dick or Harry can access my blog. But you would have noticed by now, i hardly mention proper names of people or events if i can help it, so as to reduce the likelihood the post appears in search engines.

i have a tracking programme for my blog which i have installed in the early days. i've learned which of my posts have readers who came through search engines. (It's usually the travel posts). Lately however, there is multiple visitations to my blog several times a day from the same IP address for many consecutive days. And each visit can be for hours and hours. It cannot be one of you, cos this is so bo liao. Disturbing to say the least, lol.

So i chose to change the blog address, meaning, all older posts will not be accessible to those who come by the old address even if it shows up in the search pages. i am less googleable now which suits me just fine. Only my family and friends come by this mundane blog from now on.

This is funny :)
