Silver & Gold

This is Ewan at the start of his swimming test (Silver) this past Tuesday. He was nervous the night before and he barely made it for the first part - he came in just within 4 minutes for his 100m swim. After that tough part, he seemed to enjoy himself, swam pretty well, faster than children older than him.

Finally!

Ethan had his swimming test (Gold) this afternoon. It was raining quite heavily and the test was delayed. Eventually, Ethan had to take the entire test in the rain. I didn't take many pix as a result. Like Ewan, he was scared about the 100m swim. Ethan swam that in 2 min 50 sec, within the 3-minute limit. Two boys failed unfortunately and it was really sad to see the parents consoling them. One came in only 3 sec short. After the 100m swim, the challenging portion is to complete 20 laps (8 laps breaststroke, 6 laps side & 6 laps back) in 45 minutes. Ethan came in joint third at a good time of 32 minutes 49 seconds, not bad at all, considering the fact that he was the youngest there.

Having fun at the last dash. Ethan and another boy were neck to neck. You see 3 heads at the top right hand corner of the pix. These 3 were still swimming towards the other end of the pool.

Congratulatory handshake from the tester. The tester told each of the participants their strengths and weaknesses. Ethan's weakest was his sidestroke.

I must thank the boys' swimming coach. He made a point to come to the test and encourage them and give them last minute instructions. Ethan learned swimming under him since K2. It has been 3 years. Ewan started lessons with him about 1.5 years ago. It has been a long time hasn't it ;-) Am proud of you boys!
