We have decided to repaint the entire flat. This would be the first time since we moved in 10 years ago. We keep putting off the repainting even though the yellow walls in the living room have turned dirty yellow and the walls elsewhere have long lost their shine. We wanted to wait till the boys are older, wiser, neater, less messy, more sensible...So we have 2 choices: either go on waiting and wishing while the walls get dirtier and dirtier or decide to repaint now or never. I should think that we have chosen the more realistic path.
We took advantage of the long National Day break to target at 3 rooms - masterbedroom and adjoining study and the boys' bedroom. Boy it was HARD work. We took 2 days to complete the kids' room. The ceiling is the No. 1 killer. It must be the only place in the flat still very clean and white after all these years because the kids left it alone. It is extremely difficult to paint white over white - it's near impossible to see where you've painted. Problem No. 2 is the kids who kept popping in and asking to paint, distracting more than helping. No.3 is the countless crack lines and holes we have to fill. No.4 is the other related cleaning jobs we need to do - washing the curtains, cleaning the windows and the grills. You just have to give the room a deep cleansing. No.5 - it's really nothing serious. Really. I lost my voice ENTIRELY on the first day, battling cough, runny nose and sore throat.
By Day 3, we were quite good at it and we spent just one day to repaint and clean up our bedroom. Oh, it really helps to ask my brother to bring my boys out for a few hours.
Today is Sunday, so we took a break. We hope to tackle the study room tomorrow. Then we will break till end of the month before continuing with the rest of the flat. I honestly don't know when we will finish the entire job. For now, it feels good just to look at the clean apple green walls in the rooms. If only they smell like apples too, then it would have been perfect =)
