Today is Results Day at Ethan's School. This is the day where parents see the form teacher to collect the report book as well as discuss the child's development. I spoke to Ethan's form teacher for the first time today. He wrote in the report book that Ethan is an avid reader but overdoes it sometimes - as when the lesson is still going on. This was the same problem surfaced by Ethan's P1 form teacher last year. Ethan's explanation then was that he couldn't tear himself away from the book because the story is too exciting. For a while after that, I actually stopped him from bringing any story book to school, even though all students must bring a book to do silent reading in the morning. He was happiest during the time he sprained his foot last year and had to stay home. Yes, because he could read uninterrupted all day long.
This year, I thought he is older and could exercise more discipline in this area, so we resumed the bring-a-book to school habit. As I didn't hear anything from his teacher since the beginning of the year, I was surprised to get this feedback this morning. I appreciate the feedback but thought I should have been informed earlier, no? Even his Chinese teacher made the same comment too. Makes you wonder how much of the lessons goes into his head..
