Father & Son

The Significant Other and his dad left in the wee hours this morning to catch the 6.20am flight to Guangzhou. He just sms me to say that he has reached there safely and that he misses me and the kids. Awwwwwww.

While we will be missing him for the next few days, I think it is a good opportunity for him and his dad to go on a holiday together. I don't think they have done this before. I don't know how the idea of visiting Guangzhou came about - I only remembered myself saying I'm not interested and he asked his dad instead ;-) My father-in-law who is retired was enthusiastic from the start. My mother-in-law works part-time and has no leave to speak of. Might as well. Father and son can spend time together.

In fact, I was in Guangzhou more than a decade ago with my mum. I took her on a holiday in China shortly after I got married. Guangzhou was the first Chinese city in the itinerary. My mum remembers the details like we got there by train from Hong Kong and boarded a ferry from Guangzhou back to Hong Kong on the return leg. Wow, I guess the trip meant a lot to my mum as much as it meant to me. I'm sure the S.O and his father will remember this trip for years to come.

It would really be cool if my boys go on holiday with their dad when they are grown up and are fathers themselves!
