There are a couple of girls in church that Ethan just couldn't get along with. One in particular who is a year older clashes with Ethan since the kindergarten days. I first knew it when the bible class teacher then told me that the two of them just could not see eye to eye in anything. It doesn't help that both are the strong-willed kind - bossy lah in other words. It's fortunate that the bible classes in our church are grouped into K1/K2, P1/P2, P3/P4 and so forth. That means, Ethan and that girl only get to be in the same class every alternate year. Last year, they were in the same class again and clashed often. Once Ethan was even reduced to tears. But Ethan shrugged off the incident - "just don't bother with her lah". This year you would have thought that there will be a respite. But there is a new Chinese girl in his class. She came to Singapore from America where she grew up. She is intelligent and very articulate and yes, Ethan and her can't get along. Ethan calls her "that American girl" and she complained to me that Ethan is bothering her. So it came as a surprise that a few Sundays ago, she walked her toy dog playfully on Ethan's shoulders. I asked Ethan about it and he said, "We are friends now." And yesterday when I taught Ethan's bible class, I saw for myself that they talked and played together. Cool. So there is hope yet come next year.....
