A friend is leaving her job of slightly over a decade. The reason? Horrible boss. I'm happy that she is moving on to another job - it takes courage to make a change. I've heard many gripe no end about their less than perfect work life and yet still stay on the job. An ex-colleague had such an acrimonious relationship with the boss that when he was asked to leave by the management he chose to stay on!! Mind you, he had offers elsewhere okay. Though we talked at lengths about it, I was no where near to understanding why he chose what he had chosen. Another ex-colleague was so obviously slighted by the boss that you wonder how long he can take it. It has been years and yes, he is still at the job. I'm not talking about occasional disagreements with your boss or colleagues which of course is inevitable. I'm referring to perpetual hell - you are just not getting anywhere, no purpose, no aim, no highs, no motivation. Surely you deserve better than that?
Thankfully, I didn't have horrible bosses in my past jobs, just bad ones ;-) The first one was very controlling - don't you dare speak your mind, especially if you are a fresh grad. I spoke up once and was chatised soundly. The second one is all powerful, a great career lies ahead if you are IN. I was IN for a long while until my first pregnancy which required extended bed rest rendered me OUT. The last one couldn't control the staff, short of a mutiny, it was us vs the boss. Aiyah where got perfect bosses one? Though they were never the reason why I left, I don't miss having to deal with bosses the past 6 years since I stopped working.
So if you are in perpetual hell now, please consider getting the hell out of it or getting out of the hell altogether!
