Game Plan

School is out for a week this week because of PSLE marking. Ethan's exams start next week so unfortunately this week is no holiday. I drew up his revision schedule and he could see each day's tasks clearly. But I'm no slave master: we start the day with outdoor fun after sending Ewan to school. And in between his tasks, he reads to his heart's content or play with Ewan. He also gets his one-hour of TV as in any other day.

On Monday, I jogged and he biked to a park he hasn't been too. We had fun at the playground there too. If I remember I will post some pictures of this place called Buangkok Medical Hub which houses among others the Institute of Mental Health better known as Woodbridge Hospital. When friends find out that I jog there, there will always be a polite pause. It's a beautiful place really. The jogging path and playground and fitness corner are new. The trees are tall and lush. Save for some infrequent (and sudden) screams, it is a great place for walks and jogs. Ethan wasn't bothered when I told him what this place is and I'm happy to leave it at that.

On Tuesday, we went biking around the neighbourhood, stopping at his favourite playground. On Wednesday, too bad, Ethan had to accompany me back to his school because it was Part 1 of Primary One Orientation Programme for Ewan: filling in stacks of forms as well as purchasing P1 books. This morning, Ethan played at the playground outside Ewan's school and when we were back, we played games of his choice like Jenga and Connect 4. Starting the day with play helps a lot. We get to spend time together which is rare because there is always Ewan around. Having worked up a sweat and enjoying a cool shower afterwhich, puts Ethan in a positive frame of mind to start his revision. I needn't nag at him to do his work.

Ewan is jealous of the time Ethan and I spend together. Ok, it doesn't help that Ethan will tell his brother a bit too enthusiastically what he did in the morning with mama. No matter, this prepare-for-exams-week has turned out better than expected =)
