Have You Learnt Your Lesson?

We got into the taxi, named the destination and the driver started the fare meter. Suddenly, papa asked Ethan where his bag is. Oops, not with him. Never mind, got off the taxi, paid the flag down fare of $2.50, retraced the steps, found his bag on the floor in a shop. It's ok, patiently told him to show more care for his belongings next time, which he promised. Hugs & kisses.

We sure were glad to get into the cab. Ewan was complaining that he is SOOOOO tired. As the taxi started to move, papa suddenly realised Ethan wasn't carrying his bag. WHERE IS IT? Don't know. Taxi driver was impatient and asked for our decision. We paid the flag down fare, hopped out of the taxi and scolded Ethan all the way till we found the bag and then all the way back to the taxi stand, about responsibility lah, why he didn't learn his lesson lah (he left his water bottle in the bus just 2 days ago), how his actions affected everybody lah, why we need to teach you a lesson, yadda, yadda, yadda. Our punishment for him for was to pay out of his savings the flag down fare, which he promptly did the first thing he reached home.

I wish it was the first version. As with many parenting situations, you only realised after it how terribly you've reacted, what a nag you are, what horrible words you've uttered, etc. You think you would remember and do better the next interruption/crisis arises but you didn't. Sigh, I haven't learnt my lesson too.
