Looking Back (Lao Liao Part 2)

An article in this morning's papers caught my eye. A journalist wrote about a 20-year class reunion. i came from the same JC but was a year his senior. About half the class turned up for the reunion according to the article. i thought, not bad at all, after all these years.

i look back at my own JC life fondly. Two significant events came to mind: one, our school building was suddenly declared structurally unsound ( ) and we had to vacate it the NEXT day! i seriously can't recall if people were crying or not, but i remembered we took photos (lots) and use liquid paper (correction ink) to write on the walls, lol. You must know that my JC is structurally very unique lah, and it was such a pity not to be able to spend the whole 2 years of JC life there. i was there for half a year only! i think our batch was the most nomadic: we spent 3 weeks at a polytechnic, half a year in one secondary school premises (Bukit Batok) and one full year in another (Woodlands or was it the other way round? lol). But it made our life so much more interesting :)

Another significant event was the ousting of our form teacher, LOL. We were taught by a trainee teacher who was an alumus of the school. We adored her! Then when she left, this lousy teacher took over. He couldn't teach for nuts. We sent our brightest student to ask him questions and to ask him to speed up (i think he was teaching the same topic for weeks or something like that). He bluntly told her that she should be patient and not all are as bright as her, DUH. Anyway, the vocal ones in the class gathered secretly to discuss this matter. We wanted our trainee teacher to continue teaching us when she joined the school officially. i remembered hiding in a classroom and holding a closed-window-closed-door meeting, lol. Very hot !! Anyway, the class of about 40 were divided over this issue. Half felt the teacher was OK (till today i cannot fathom why) and the other half was adamant to get him replaced. The half that supported him were mostly from errr one kind of school and the other half from another kind, LOL

To cut long story short, it was very exciting to be part of a group which rebelled :) We wrote a petition letter, we spoke to teachers. The VP came to speak with us, and eventually the class was split into 2 !! 87A12a and 87A12b - we got our wish, our beloved trainee teacher became our form teacher. i can cry from this wonderful memory, lol. It was really an idealistic age i guess, fighting so fiercely for what we believed in.

Actually there are many more wonderful memories lah. Aiyer, must be another sign to growing old when you start to look back instead of looking forward, LOL.

I was there too and can vouch for everything you said. Not lao liao memory still so good what...some things I already forgot! We were the vocal and idealistic ones and we were the ones who churned out the better grades, remember? Oh..those were the days.
