Are Facebook Frens, Frens?

A couple of days ago, i happened to chance upon Ethan ignoring a friend request in Facebook. Just before he clicked Ignore, i saw that the person who made the fren request had 5 mutual frens with Ethan.

i asked Ethan if he knew that guy. Ethan said that guy is a school mate but he doesn't know him so ignore lor, lol.

i was about to say something but decided not to. At first i thought it's rude to ignore request mah, afterall he is from the same school. But then, i thought i should let Ethan hold his current innocent opinion regarding facebook friends :)

i figured out at least he is not adding frens indiscriminately as what many kids do. Frens' frens, frens' frens' frens, frens' frens' frens' frens also add, lol.

Before you wag your finger at me, yes i have many frens in my FB account, but it's all for gaming purposes. My account doesn't have personal info. i know how to protect myself mah. That said, i do delete these frens from time to time when i'm in the mood, lol.

Are Facebook Frens frens? i'm in FB for coming to 2 years and i've met a number of nice people through the games i play. One is a M'sian homemaker who is such a delight to chat with - we talk about the game and our family. Another is a group of guys whom i've even started a clan with, in a game. Though we come from diverse background and conduct our friendship mostly through online chat (mainly Skype), we have formed a close bond. Now, i've experienced for myself the power of social networking i guess.

i have actually started out this post wanting to b**** about a supposed FB fren who time and again showed his volatile and selfish behaviour, the latest and worst being a few days back. But on second thoughts, i think my true FB frens are more a reason to celebrate and be thankful for. Cheers!
