Flat feet this time. Both Ethan and Ewan have flat feet like their papa. We were aware that Ethan has flat feet since he was a toddler but we didn't pay too much attention to it. Until lately, my brother chanced upon a custom-fitted arch support that aims to reshape and realign the foot.
We had both Ethan and Ewan assessed and the bad news - Ethan's condition is quite bad because his feet are beginning to turn inwards and also Ewan too has flat feet. That sort of explained why when Ethan sprained his foot in school about 2 months back, the sprain occurred at the inward part (common for those with flat feet) and it took a long time to heal. Also, Ewan often trips when walking for no rhyme or reason. Children with flat feet, depending on the severity, have trouble with balancing, tire easily from walking and have bad posture. Papa said he doesn't remember that he had such problems when he was young and thus was sceptical about the assessment. However, at my brother's insistence, we went ahead to purchase the arch support which is VERY pricey because it is custom-made. My generous brother paid for them. The arch support fits into their shoes. Now my kids have to wear them 10 hours a day - which means they have to wear shoes at home too to fulfil the 10 hours. And they have to wear it for 18 months - one and a half years!! They will be assessed 6 monthly. The arch support is supposed to permanently correct flatfootedness in children under 10 years old. Hope so..this is one long journey.
