Catching Up

I'm TEN, finally!

Since the last post, Ewan turned 10 years old on 16 November 2011. It's a magical number to him. In his own words - "at last I'm a double digit" :) We invited a few of his classmates over for a small party and all had a good time. And for bragging rights, this mama made the "Ewan is 10" sign you see in the picture above :)

On 24 November, PSLE results were released and we were all there to give Ethan the support. Ethan did pretty well and all credit to him and his teachers. His form teacher Mr S, in particular started class half an hour before official school time as well as stayed back after school everyday, to give the boys the extra attention and push. He is now Ewan's form teacher as well (for this year and next), for which we are really very grateful.

Choosing a secondary school for Ethan was quite an experience. Many of his classmates have gone for DSA (Direct School Admissions) trials/tests/interviews in July/Aug with the hope of landing in a school of their choice before PSLE. We didn't try for any, neither did we go for any Open Houses. We had decided jointly that we will choose a school based on his results. Funnily enough, Ethan chose a school which we have not even considered earlier, given its distance from home, even though my nephews attend the school.

Long story short, Ethan is VERY happy in his new school. Oh, have i shared that Mr S is an old boy as well? Besides our nephews (my sister's boys), our good friend P. Lee and a few church friends are old boys too. Suddenly, Ethan is part of this huge family :)

Hopeful Gentleman, Professional and Sportsman :)

And lastly, the significant other had such a bad episode of pain and numbness in his left leg due to his old slipped disc condition, that he had to be admitted the day before Chinese New Year. He stayed in hospital for the next 8 days and was on MC since. He only returned to work this past Wednesday (also Ethan's 13th birthday 22 Feb). That's like a month! Throughout this episode, i have learned to be thankful for small mercies and for the support from friends and family. Small mercies like both sides of our families had our reunion dinner earlier and not on the eve. We received many well wishes and visitations. Much as i'm an FB user, i've never ever thought of sharing this personal episode in that platform. i've made the right choice, cos i know now who are genuinely concerned enough to call me, text me, or ask me personally, about Fai's condition and how the boys and i were coping. We even received a card from a church family in which the kids also wrote their well wishes :) It's a lesson to me too that a simple "how's things?" goes a long way...

i'm thankful for so many things...especially my family *heart*
