Wonder..Full

Ewan is now reading an excellent series on Mr Putter & Tabby by Cynthia Rylant, the author who also wrote the well known Henry and Mudge series. I love these books too because we seldom find elderly people as protaganists in children's books. Mr Putter lives alone with his cat Tabby and he is neighbour with Mrs Teaberry who lives with her dog Zeke. We are treated to Mr Putter's "adventures" through titles like Mr Putter & Tabby Stir the Soup, Mr Putter & Tabby Fly the Plane, Mr Putter & Tabby Writes the Book, you get the drift. Not much is said about Mr Putter's past, like how he came to live alone but to me that is the beauty of the series - you are drawn to the character and you wonder about his life long after the books are read. Not just me. A few days ago, Ewan walked into the kitchen and asked me out the blue if Mr Putter and Mrs Teaberry could get married. Emmm, I said why not if they love each other. Ewan said surely they love each other because they do things for each other and with each other. Wow, from a 6-year old? It's amazing what children's books can do.
