Easter!

And it's Easter!

Lent is over and only when my friend commented that 40 days of giving up is over for me that i realised that half way through, it already wasn't much of an issue because i was busy with other stuff to spend time online.

First it was to confirm the details of my new part-time job and thereafter to handover my coordination duties (Reading Programme at my son's school) to a good friend, another parent volunteer. i have no problem handing over the baton, afterall i've been at it for a few years already. But a part of me was beginning the "grieving" process. At the end of next year when Ewan completes his P6, i will also say bye bye to the school. So many friendships with other parents and teachers are formed during my time of volunteering. We usually have breakfast together after our reading duties and more often than not, we learn and encourage each other through our parenting journey.

One of them even arranged a "surprise" birthday celebration for me as the committee happened to have their meeting that Saturday morning.

Talking of birthday, the significant other usually takes leave to celebrate my birthday. Even though my birthday fell on a Saturday this year, he took leave on Friday cos he said it feels strange not to take leave, lol. So we celebrated a day earlier with a morning walk at Labrador Park (the new boardwalk) and when the boys finished school later in the afternoon, we went for dinner and a movie (Hunger Games!). The celebration continued on Saturday where we went out for dinner and returned home to observe Earth Hour by switching off all lights for an hour.

We also supported Ewan in his wushu competition. Even though we all knew he isn't a medal contender, we were there to encourage him to enjoy the journey. It was an eye opener for us as well to see how the competition is organised. Ewan's wushu mates from other schools (from his Saturday programme at a community club) did very well, winning gold, silver and bronze medals, and we too cheered their good performance. The parental level of support and encouragement for these kids is simply amazing. One father in particular, is very 'on' in his involvement of his son's wushu. He is Sri Lankan and came to Singapore 13 years ago. All in the family are PR and his children take Chinese as second language and learn wushu since pre-school. He is there for all the extra wushu lessons outside school in 3 different locations and when i commended him on this, he said he loves to be involved cos it gives him the opportunity to be close to his son :) He was just so happy when his son won the gold medal for one routine, setting the record as the first non-Chinese to do so.

i started work as a part-time medical social worker this past week. The first day was mainly orientation where my boss introduced me to colleagues in this small hospital. This hospital is so small everyone knows everyone and a lowly social worker as me got to chat with the CEO as well :) By the second day where i was shown the job details by visiting the wards and attending case conference with the other medical professionals like doctors, nurses and physiotherapists, i felt very happy for my new life there because i saw the passion of these colleagues for their elderly and young patients. After work that day, i immediately called the significant other to tell him i am happy, lol.

Lent has passed and Easter is about Hope. i am hope-full.

Blessed Easter
