| Back to School with Dad on 4 Jan |
i know, it's already the 3rd week of school :)
i've actually written a post on the first day of school and my reaction to some unexpected changes, but didn't post it somehow. All is good now, the passage of time has helped us to adapt and settle down....
This is Ethan's PSLE year. On the first day of school, his new teacher got the boys to write a letter to their parents. The gist of Ethan's letter is that he will do his best for PSLE and not to worry for him. In my written response to him, i affirmed his strengths and pointed out that the difference between intelligence and wisdom - that my hopes for him is to grow in wisdom this year, experiencing, learning from and celebrating the ups and downs.
Better enjoy the last year of primary school lah. i hope when he looks back next time, it will be more than the pressure of preparing for PSLE. Ethan is one of the 6 nominees for head prefect. We are very excited for him or more accurately, excited that he has the opportunity to participate in the process of giving a speech to canvass for votes from the students and to be interviewed by the school principal. We told him that getting the position is the aim BUT the outcome is not within our control, so just go and savor the experience whatever the outcome.
My boy is growing and changing. Some times he is so corky sure of everything and some times i detect fear and uncertainty in him. And honestly, i vacillate between these two states too when i'm parenting him :) i seriously need to work on my cheer-leading skills - encourage encourage encourage - it's all too tempting to nag at a puberty-hitting-growing-and-changing-preteen, sigh.
i'm blessed. Let me savour this once-in-a-lifetime journey of loving and encouraging a last-year-in-a-primary-school-Ethan :)
